This will include going through the history of the presenting problem leading to the neurological consultation followed by a review of background medical history and medications and then finally a thorough physical neurological examination.
The history will include questions about social history and lifestyle choices. In order to get a complete picture, information about previous hospitalisations, surgeries, scans and investigations will be useful.
In addition to the above, a thorough physical examination may include testing for higher mental functions, cranial nerve examination including vision and facial movements, motor examination including strength and reflexes, sensory examination, cerebellar testing for coordination and other aspects if needed.
Based on the information gathered, a discussion about the diagnosis, differential diagnoses, and a management plan will result. Following this appointment, a comprehensive letter will be sent to the referring doctor.
Review Consultations are primarily to review the progress of the condition and to review the test results.
Follow up appointments can be done via video conference for regional patients and can be arranged on a case by case basis.
